Before the summit ended, FRANCE 24's Jean-Emile Jammine spoke to Ian Bond, deputy director of the Centre for European Reform in London and former British Ambassador to Latvia. "I'm very skeptical that this meeting was inevitable. It certainly wasn't necessary", he said. "You don't need to to give Putin the reward of a summit meeting with all this pomp and circumstance and literally a red carpet, when there is absolutely no sign that Putin wants to to make any compromises at all ", he added.
